Medicare Advantage has three main enrollment windows: your Initial Enrollment Period (7 months around your 65th birthday), Annual Enrollment (Oct 15–Dec 7), and the MA Open Enrollment Period (Jan 1–Mar 31, one switch). Texas residents may also qualify for Special Enrollment Periods after moving, losing other coverage, or becoming dual-eligible.
MA plans replace Original Medicare with a private bundle that usually includes Part D drugs and extras (dental, vision, gym). Medigap supplements Original Medicare, covering coinsurance and deductibles. You can have one or the other — not both.
